The month of April traditionally marks an important milestone in the updating of social support measures in France. The year 2026 is no exception, with several adjustments that directly affect recipients of social benefits and, more broadly, workers with modest incomes.

Increase in the Activity Bonus

The activity bonus is a benefit designed to supplement the income of low-income workers. It serves a dual purpose: encouraging employment and supporting purchasing power. Its amount is personalized and depends in particular on household composition and income.

As of April 1, the activity bonus is being increased, with an average gain estimated at €50 per month for nearly 3 million households.

Increase in Social Benefits

Several social benefits are being increased by 0.8% as of April 1, 2026, in line with observed inflation.

The following are notably affected:

  • The active solidarity income (RSA), which rises from €635.71 to €651.69 per month;
  • The allowance for disabled adults (AAH), increased from €1,033.32 to €1,041.59 per month;
  • The housing assistance (APL), the amount of which depends on the household’s situation;
  • Family allowances, also determined based on income and family composition.

To find out your eligibility for the various social benefits, the French public service provides a simulator that helps identify all the assistance you may be entitled to based on your personal situation.

Completing this simulator will take about 15 minutes and will allow you to check your eligibility among a total of 58 benefits. You can access this simulator via the following link: Simulateur de droits – étape votre foyer

Launch of the Tax Filing Campaign

Beyond the increase in a number of social benefits, the month of April also marks the launch of the annual income tax filing campaign.

Starting April 9, 2026, taxpayers can access their pre-filled tax return online in order to review, complete, or correct it if necessary. The online filing service is open until the following deadlines, depending on the department:

  • Until Thursday, May 22 (11:59 p.m.) for departments no. 01 to 19 and for non-residents;
  • Until Wednesday, May 28 (11:59 p.m.) at the latest for departments no. 20 to 54;
  • Until Thursday, June 5 (11:59 p.m.) at the latest for departments no. 55 to 974/976.

Paper tax returns must be submitted no later than Tuesday, May 20, 2026, at midnight.

As a reminder, residents of France are subject to a filing obligation, even in the absence of income from French sources. This obligation also applies to non-residents receiving income from professional activity carried out in France.
